Game on!

Great news this week, Stuart's Ironman is a go! He's had shoulder aches and pains for years, but three weeks ago he cut short a swim workout due to intense pain. For my tough husband to call it quits on a workout means the pain must have been excruciating. That Saturday night, he heard a pop. He'd ruptured a tendon and detached his biceps muscle from his shoulder.
A visit to the internist the next week had him coming to grips with the idea that a year's worth of training was for naught. We were disappointed but trying to be philosophical about it. On Monday though, he finally got to see the orthopedist. Amazingly, the sports medicine orthopedist says that physical therapy and not surgery is the answer. His arm will remain somewhat odd-looking, but will regain full functionality and strength. It may affect his swim and therefore finishing time at Ironman Florida, so his goals may need to be adjusted. But, most importantly, he will be at the starting line on November 1st!!! So, no more sadness after two weeks of missed workouts. Instead, he's got work to do. We've got a race to attend in 6 weeks!!!
