My last race of the season was supposed to be the Annapolis Triathlon on September 6th. I was excited both because I love Annapolis but more importantly because my cousin Billy the USNA swimming stud was going to do it with me. I had also been looking at a longer race in October, but I was going to be satisfied with this one last race before hanging up the tri bike for another season. Well, last week the organizers of the Annapolis Triathlon announced that the city had revoked bike permits, supposedly due to "safety" issues, but more likely due to numerous complaints from
local churches that street closures were inconvenient. The organizers are giving our money back, which is good since it was like $150, but I'm still sad. I don't know if I would have pushed myself any harder during that run at Rhode Island if I knew it would be more than a year before I raced again. I felt that I gave the best performance I could give under the circumstances...but would different circumstances have made a difference.
Yes, I've still got the Annapolis Ten Miler next weekend. And a Turkey Trot in November. But with all the issues still associated with the tendons in my left leg, I know I won't be able to push it the way I'd like. PR's in running races are probably a thing of the past, so it's hard to get psyched.
I'll be okay. There's lots to look forward to in the future. It's just a little disappointing.
