For someone who claims to love this sport as much as I do, it's amazing how many different ways I find to waste time that could be put to more productive uses -- whether it's training, sleeping, or just important stuff like reading or getting laundry done. Instead, I get trapped by mindless things like this and end up losing an hour of my day. Or I laze about saying I'm tired, but don't actually just take a nap and get it over with.
So, I just checked the calendar and there's 11 weeks left in the year. It's off-season, and as I slowly put together the 2009 race calendar it looks like the first triathlon of the year will be in early May. With that in mind, I'm using this blog to hold myself accountable. I want to get in another 88hrs of training time by January 1st. That's a measly 8hrs per week. Very easy to do if I stay organized and don't waste time making excuses. I don't like publicly admitting I've failed so here it is, I'm putting this goal out here where others can see it and read it. I'll occasionally post updates to prove to myself and you my readers that I'm achieving this minor goal I'm setting for my off season.
No more using the dogs as an excuse - if I really feel I can't leave them, there's always yoga, some upper body strength and core work in the basement. It's dark - well, the gym is open until 11pm. It's cold - birthday and Christmas are coming, asking for more cold weather riding gear.
8hrs a week. That's less than 5% of the hours in a given week. Why wouldn't I want to spend at least 5% of my time doing the things I say I love doing???? And with that, I'm off for a ride. Later...

Off season? What's that?
Get off yer duff and go blow off some steam swimming, bking, running and weight-lifting girl! You know you'll feel better. Plus you'll look spectacular too :)
Better yet, come on down and run the trails with me this winter!
